Capacitive Touch screen vs. Resistive Touch Screen: Technology Analysis, Performance Evaluation and Application Comparison
Touch screen as a new input device, it is currently the most simple, convenient and natural way of human-computer interaction. When contacting the graphic buttons on the screen, the haptic feedback system on the screen can be driven according to the pre-programmed program to drive a variety of linking devices, which can be used to replace the mechanical button panel, and by means of the LCD screen to create a vivid audio-visual effects, and its main areas of application for cell phones, Tablet PCs, cash registers, industrial areas, and so on.
The development of touch screen technology has become an indispensable part of modern electronic equipment, and capacitive touch screen and resistive touch screen are two mainstream touch screen technology. They have their own technical principles, performance characteristics and application scenarios. In this paper, we will discuss these two technologies in depth and make a detailed comparison of their advantages and disadvantages, in order to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding and reference.

Technical Principle
Capacitive touch screen is a touch technology based on the principle of capacitive change. Its composition includes conductive glass substrate, ITO conductive film, inductive capacitor, driving circuit and control chip and other parts. Capacitive screen works through any object holding an electric charge including human skin. (The charge carried by the human body.) Capacitive touchscreens are made of materials such as alloys or tin oxide (ITO), and the charge is stored in a microscopic electrostatic network that is thinner than a hair. When a finger taps on the screen, a small amount of current is absorbed from the contact point, causing a voltage drop at the corner electrodes, and a change in the electric field of the sense capacitor, which is detected by a sensing circuit. The control chip will convert this capacitance change into an electrical signal, and accurately calculate the touch position

Resistive touch screens utilize the change in resistance between two layers of ITO conductive film to determine the touch position. These two layers of conductive film are generally composed of glass or PET material, which are separated by a certain interval. When pressure is applied externally, the conductive film will make contact and form a circuit. The control system calculates the touch position by applying a voltage to the conductive film and detecting the change in current.

Performance Evaluation
1. Capacitive Touch Screen
Advantages
- Sensitivity and Response Speed: Capacitive touch panels have extremely high sensitivity and fast response speed, and the moment the user touches can be accurately detected.
- Multi-touch support: Capacitive touch screens are able to recognize multiple touch points at the same time, realizing multi-touch operation, which is suitable for complex gesture control.
- Transparency and Display Effect: Capacitive touch screens that use glass as a substrate have a high degree of transparency, which maintains the clarity and color reproduction of the screen display.

Disadvantages:
- Susceptible to environmental influences: capacitive touch screen is sensitive to electromagnetic interference in the environment, which may lead to false triggering.
- Higher cost:The material and technology costs required to manufacture capacitive touch screens are relatively high, resulting in higher product prices.
2. Resistive Touch Screen
Advantage
- Durability and Stability: Due to its simple structure and durability, the resistive touch screen is able to operate stably in various environments and is not easily affected by dust, water and dirt.
- Accuracy: Resistive touch panels have high accuracy in recognizing single-point touch positions, which is suitable for application scenarios that require high accuracy.

Disadvantages:
- Does not support multi-touch: resistive touch screen usually can only recognize a single touch point, does not support multi-touch, limiting the diversity of operations.
- Lower transparency: the substrate of resistive touch screen is usually made of material with greater thickness and relatively lower transparency.
3. Application Comparison
Capacitive Touch Screen: It is suitable for consumer electronic products, such as smart phones, tablet PCs, smart watches and so on. Its high sensitivity, multi-touch and excellent display effect make user operation more smooth and convenient.
Resistive Touch Screen: Mainly used in industrial control equipment, medical equipment, ATM machines and other scenarios that require high stability and durability. Its simple structure and stable performance enable it to operate reliably in harsh environments.
Conclusion
Capacitive touch screen and resistive touch screen have their own unique advantages and applicable scenarios. When selecting them, comprehensive consideration should be made according to specific application requirements and environmental conditions. Capacitive touch screen is suitable for consumer electronic products that require high operating experience and multi-touch support; while resistive touch screen is more suitable for industrial control equipment that requires high stability and durability.
